My friend posts "Friday Favorites" on her blog and I am going to copy her.
This week my favorite is - a quote(that the same friend had posted on her blog). It sure made me smile.
Women are angels.
...and when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly...on a broomstick.
We are just flexible like that.
I tend to be on my broomstick a little too often. I am trying harder to take a deep breath and count silently to 10 before I react to any situation or more specifically to any child. This weekend will be a test of that since Travis just left to the airport and will not return home until Sunday afternoon. I can take Travis traveling but strongly prefer it not to be on a weekend. Come on, what about my Friday date night??? Oh well, we have a primary party tonight anyway.

blue & gold
Last night was the Blue & Gold Banquet for Scouts.
Assignment- each boy was to bring a decorated cake
Theme- 100th Birthday of the Boy Scouts
Mom's Assignment- supervise the above, bring baked beans(which I hate so I have never made in my life) and a veggie tray
We started right after school. Nicholas especially like this task because after numerous hotel stays this fall/winter he fell in love with the show "Cake Boss" and told me when he grows up he wants to be a cake boss and decorate cakes. But first he wanted to know if you can get a lot of money being a cake boss.

We got the cakes in the oven and then waited for the fun part....

...decorating! We have a big sticky mess in the kitchen AND two beautifully decorated cakes. Both of them turned out great and Holden & Nic and fun.
Here they are-the best two cakes there (if I were the judge).

Chloe
I heard comments from a few nephews that they had seen enough about Austin and would like to see more about their other cousins, so boys here you go....

Chloe has grown up right before our eyes, it seems to have happened so quick I didn't notice it was happening and then poof one day she was just all grown up. Not anything little-girlish about her anymore. And I mean it when I say it happened quick. In some bad mother momments, I have even gotten mad at her when her clothes & shoes that I JUST bought are too small and once again she has nothing to wear. (Like it is her fault she is growing like a weed!!!)
They asked me at church to give a little introduction of Chloe to the other girls. This is a 12 year synopsis of Chloe's life that I quickly wrote up-
Chloe was born December 1oth in Idaho Falls, Idaho where she lived until about 2 months ago. She is the oldest child in our family and also the only girl. She has three younger brothers, Holden who is 10, Nicholas who is 9, and Austin who is 3. Chloe stared dancing when she 3 and danced for the next 9 years straight until last year when she decided to try something new. She danced on 3 competitive teams, where she got to travel & perform in competitions, that was her favorite part of dance. She plays the piano and has played basketball and softball. She has also tried cheer and clogging. She is on a soccer team with some cute girls she has met since moving here and is really liking it! Chloe loves little kids and is a great babysitter! Before moving here, she and a friend had a money-making babysitting business going. She had jobs most days of the week and sometimes on Saturdays she would have two or three jobs. With all that money she hopes to talk her dad into letting her buy a Yorkie that she plans to name "Daisy". Chloe's favorite color is lime green, her favorite subject in school is math. She likes to snow ski, take pictures, and do hair and make-up. Her favorite food is Mexican. She can also wake-board but prefers to tube with her cousins going really fast & crazy. Her all-time FAVORITE thing is the week we spend each year at Bear Lake with our family. Something unique about Chloe are her eyes, one is blue and one is part blue, part brown. Chloe is a great daughter, very friendly and talkative, likes to take charge and is a very responsible girl!
WE LOVE YOU CHLOE!

rain & stuff
Chloe took this picture today of our side yard, brought it in and told me to post it on our blog and label it rain. Boy we sure have had A LOT of rain, I am almost feeling like we moved to Seattle. If you know me very well you know that I hate the rain but I am trying to be grateful because I guess Arizona has been in a drought and could really use it. Tomorrow is supposed to be rain free...YEAH!
Chloe and I have been working together on this diorama that she had to do for school. The book she chose "Because of Winn-Dixie" is one of our favorites. We had fun making this miniature scene of the party at Gloria Dump's including her tree of bottles, the Litmus Lozenges and pickles they served at the party. We had to get pretty creative to figure out how we could make miniature pickles. I finally found an old birthday candle that did the trick when we cut it into small pieces.
Other stuff we have been up to-
-Staying up way too late every night watching the Olympics.
-Travis & I started the P90X workout series this morning. We are both already feeling it tonight. Wish us luck to continue because it is HARD stuff.
-Visited with a friend of ours from Idaho Falls this weekend, it was so fun to see her. If we just keep having friends in Phoenix every few weeks I won't be so homesick.
-Was jealous to hear that several family members were going to Grand Targhee to ski today. Wish we could have joined you!
-I was secretly happy today when the rain caused soccer and baseball practices to be cancelled. It is rare that we have NO activities on a school night,we had great night home together as a family. I loved it!

missing Idaho
Last night Travis and I were laying in bed talking about a friend from Idaho that he talked to on the phone earlier that day. I lay there for a few minutes and then I started crying. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing and I wasn't really sure why they were flowing except that plain and simple - I miss Idaho.
I always feel bad crying about this because I know it tugs at Travis' heartstrings. He hates to see me sad and I know it makes him question himself, "did I really do the right thing by bringing my family down here". The answer to that is "yes", Travis and I both know that. I know that because if I didn't I would have begged Travis not to leave his job in Idaho and he wouldn't have. He doesn't admit it, but I know he misses Idaho too, that is truly his home, he has never been anywhere else.
Arizona is where we are supposed to be, I am sure of it but that doesn't make me miss Idaho any less. I miss our family. I miss our friends. I miss my friends. I miss my kids' friends. I miss the small town. I miss our ward. I miss knowing everything about our life like who our doctor is, our dentist, our hair cut people, my nail lady, who to call if I need something fixed. I miss waving to people I know as I drive down the street. I miss that old life.
But this is our life, a new chapter. I don't know anything about who our doctor is, or dentist, haven't settled in with a hair person, can't find a nail lady but this is our home now and one day soon I will love it just like I loved Idaho Falls. I won't forget those friends we love in Idaho but soon we will have friends we love here also.
I know all this because I have moved many times before, I have just forgotten how hard those first few initial months can be. I also know from moving around so much that there are those dear friends that will always be your friends no matter where you live (I'm just comforting myself with my own good advice).
Anyway I have reflected many times in the last few months on my mom and how many times we moved as a family. I have thought about how much work it was for her and my dad to pack up the family of seven and relocate every couple of years. Not only physically hard and financially hard but also emotionally hard. We never lived near any of our extended family and we survived that but we had great friends that we had to leave each time we moved. I can't ever remember my mom complaining, I've tried not to let my kids hear me complain either. My mom always showed us kids the bright side of where we were going next. A tidbit of advice my mom just shared with me a couple of weeks ago- "get involved". She told me to go to a book club, go to RS, meet people, invite the neighbors over, sign the kids up for their usual activities. I'm trying. Thanks mom you were a lot better at this moving thing than I will ever be.
Another thing I learned from moving and something I am hoping my own family will also learn is to rely more on each other and grow closer as a family. I hope we will develop unique traditions to add to the things we already do, I hope we will love each other more and fight less. I hope one day we will look back and say we sure are glad we did this hard thing and moved away from a place where we were so comfortable.
My tears have dried and I am fine today but the answer to the question I get asked so often is "yes, I do miss Idaho."

a rare treat
Graham Crackers + chocolate frosting = "A Rare Treat" We call it a "rare treat" because of Chloe's friend Cami. For a while there last year Chloe and Cami were coming home from school everyday and having some of this tasty treat. It is actually one of my personal favorites from childhood. Anyway Cami told Chloe that she was lucky she could eat this concoction whenever she wanted because her mom said that it was a "rare treat". From that day on we have called it the "rare treat". And we do not have it rarely.
How could we resist when we have leftover frosting from Nicholas' birthday cake. Austin is the only one pictured but we were all enjoying this delicious after-school snack.

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!
Nicholas has been counting down the days until his birthday since about the day after Christmas.
He has changed his mind on what he wanted for his birthday about a thousand times so I finally convinced him to take hard cash and buy whatever he wants when he makes up his mind. His real wish was to go to Idaho to celebrate his birthday but unfortunately I had to tell him that was out of the question.
The celebration plan -
I went and got Nic's favorite chocolate donuts at 6:00 a.m.
Lunch with mom at Red Robin.
We had a crazy busy day with homework and after school activities so the original plan got changed a bit....
We were staying home to have beef stroganoff(Nic's favorite dinner) but instead we went to Texas Roadhouse while we waited for Chloe to finish soccer practice.
Then we came home and had a late celebration with the Hatch's and ate Nic's delicious chocolate birthday cake. Nic decorated his own cake with some army guys from the toy room. I loved it.
Happy Birthday Nicholas, we sure do love you and hope that $100 buys you everything you are dreaming it will buy!

friday night bedtime
It is 9:00 p.m. and Austin has been ready to go to bed since about 6:30 tonight but now that we are home and I am trying to get him there...

He is hiding in my bed and making excuses like...
I am so boring.
I am starving.
I am so starving hot.
I love your bed.
I hate my bed.
This is so boring.
Lately if there is anything he doesn't want to do he says it is "boring" or "starving" or "I'm sooooo hot" as he rolls around on the floor.

Snow Party!
Austin's preschool had a snow party today!
It was a big deal, the kids were going to have this "unique opportunity" to play in the snow. The teacher sent an e-mail last week letting us know the cost of the snow was $500.00!!! and said we were welcome to donate. I didn't donate, sorry it just wasn't that unique for my kid. Travis called to see how it was going, I told him I imagined $500 would buy a much bigger pile of snow. To describe it best I said it looks like the front yard at the end of March to mid April when you just wish the last of the snow would finally melt. You know when its hard and crunchy and has muddy brown grass to surround it.
One of Austin's favorite parts was the hot chocolate, he probably had 10 cups.
It was a balmy 73 degrees today, you might see a dad or two in the background with flip flops and shorts on. You gotta love a good February snow day in Arizona!
Day One
Well, I have finally done it. I started a blog!
Chloe has been begging me since we got to Arizona to start a blog. I have had a few "odd" blogging experiences since Natalie got me hooked on reading some blogs this past summer. By "odd" I mean Chloe and I have been reading a blog for about six months now and when we moved to Arizona we met the people on the blog, they live right here by us. I felt as though I was a stalker who knew all about these people and the details of their lives and wasn't supposed to.
Anyway I do want our family and friends to know about our lives. I thought this would be the best way for everyone in Idaho to keep in touch with us on a day to day basis,so I am giving it a shot.
Don't laugh any of you experienced bloggers. It literally took me 8 hours yesterday to do what you see thus far. I did it all on my own with zero help from anyone. I want some help to make it all fancy and cute and add a whole bunch of stuff on the sides but so far I can't figure that out on my own. Feel free to comment or give your much needed advice.
I hope you enjoy this and feel as if we were still a part of your lives on a daily basis. We miss you all and love you!
P.S. I also thought this would help me document the kid's lives since I have failed so far in the scrapbook division.

New House
The most exciting thing that has happened since we arrived in Arizona. On Thursday Travis and I signed the papers to buy a new house! YEAH! I can't tell you how excited I am to be settled in our own place. I am also excited to set up house since decorating and such is one of my favorite things. We will close in 35 days which is now only 31 days away. Thank you, thank you to Travis who finally gave into my tears and bought me the house I had orginally picked back at Thanksgiving when we where here house hunting.
look who learned to ride a bike
I couldn't believe it on Saturday night when the kids called me outside... they taught Austin to ride a bike! They really didn't have to teach him, they just took the training wheels off and away he went. We went for a family bike ride yesterday after church and Austin kept right up. Amazing. When Holden learned to ride at age 3 there were a lot of accidents with blood involved so I kept telling the kids "no" when they wanted to take his training wheels off. But oh well, it is so cute to see him peddling away on that tiny bike.
